In late February 1943, FDR’s secretary Grace Tully noted that the President seemed unusually tired, even in the morning, and that the circles under his eyes grew darker and his hands shook more than usual. But then on Christmas Day 1943, the President complained of feeling unwell. It seemed FDR had been able to avoid the illness that befell his friend.
